It is strange to me the things that exist all around us that we barely notice. Oh, we’re quick to notice a lot of things — generally the stuff others would rather we didn’t but oh, the things we miss.  A couple years ago I made a single new year resolution — to live my life more "on purpose". Well, I guess overall I’ve make some progress, but I read something this morning that jolted me into realizing I’ve a long way to go…

I’m finishing up a final exam for my first course in masters degree. I earned a masters in a technology field about a gazillion years ago (or so it seems..) and have begun one in Lay Ministry. So I pull the bookmark out of one of my texts this morning to reread a section for a question that I "know" how to answer but am struggling to articulate very well … it reads:

"The love of God does not distinguish between the newly-conceived infant still in its mother’s womb, the baby, the youth, the grown adult or the elderly, because in each of them He see the sign of His own image and likeness."  — Pope Benedict XVI

By golly, I’ve been carrying the thing around for a couple years now and only first "really" read it this morning.  Ah, the good stuff is all around us. We just need to take the time and make the effort to notice.
